Restylane® Classic is a Hyaluronic Acid filler from Restylane under Galderma, for filling folds, adding volume, and contouring areas needing a firm gel with good shape retention.

What is Restylane Classic?
Restylane Classic product at The Ality Clinic

Restylane Classic uses NASHA™, Restylane's original technology, providing a relatively firm gel that does not expand excessively and retains shape well at the appropriate injection layer.

What is Restylane Classic?

Restylane Classic is a Cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid or HA Filler.

HA adds volume and retains water. Injection into areas needing filling can make folds shallower, fill hollows, and adjust facial contour.

Classic is firmer than highly flexible Restylane variants such as Refyne or Defyne, suiting treatments needing a degree of shape support.

Restylane Classic uses NASHA™, Restylane's original technology, providing a relatively firm gel that does not expand excessively and retains shape well at the appropriate injection layer.

What is NASHA™ Technology?

NASHA stands for Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid.

This Restylane technology stabilizes Hyaluronic Acid, allowing it to remain in tissue longer than non-cross-linked HA.

NASHA fillers emphasize shape retention and support over the high flexibility of Restylane's OBT group.

Restylane Classic and Restylane Lyft are examples of products using NASHA technology.

What is Restylane Classic's texture like?

Classic has a medium-to-firm texture.

Its main characteristics are:

  • Good shape retention
  • Does not expand excessively
  • Fills folds well
  • Can add volume in some areas
  • Natural-looking shapes with appropriate layer and amount

It is fairly versatile, though it does not suit every facial area.

Where can Restylane Classic be used?

According to product information, Restylane Classic can fill wrinkles, add volume, and adjust facial contour.

Areas the doctor may select include:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Cheeks
  • Areas with folds or reduced volume
  • Lips for certain treatments
  • Areas needing a relatively firm but not excessively hard filler

Very thin-skinned areas such as under the eyes require special assessment, as Restylane now also has variants specifically for the under-eyes.

Who may be suited to Restylane Classic?

It may suit people who:

  • Have more noticeable nasolabial folds
  • Have marionette lines
  • Are beginning to lose volume in some facial areas
  • Want good shape retention
  • Do not want excessive expansion
  • Want folds filled with slight volume enhancement
  • Want an HA Filler that can be dissolved if necessary

How long does Restylane Classic last?

Generally: Restylane Classic lasts approximately 8–12 months

Actual duration may be shorter or longer depending on the injection area, amount, and facial movement.

Studies of Restylane in nasolabial folds followed results for 12 months; some studies found continuing changes in some people at 13–15 months after treatment.

The 8–12-month range is therefore an estimate, not a duration everyone must achieve equally.

Factors affecting duration include:

  • Injection site
  • Injection layer
  • Amount used
  • Movement in the area
  • Individual metabolism
  • Previous filling patterns and repeat treatments

How does Restylane Classic differ from Lyft?

Both use NASHA technology, but differ in texture and suitable applications.

Restylane Classic

Medium firmness for filling folds and adding volume where very high support is not needed.

Restylane Lyft

Firmer with more support for increasing Projection or deep facial contouring, such as the chin and anterior cheeks.

How does Restylane Classic differ from Kysse?

Classic

Emphasizes shape retention and support through NASHA technology.

Kysse

Designed for the lips, with OBT/XpresHAn technology for more flexibility and movement with the lips.

For lip treatment, the doctor may choose Classic or Kysse according to lip characteristics and the desired shape.

How does Restylane Classic differ from Defyne and Refyne?

Classic uses NASHA Technology, giving it a relatively firm texture and shape retention.

Defyne and Refyne use OBT technology, emphasizing more flexibility and movement with the face.

They therefore suit different applications.

  • Classic → Shape retention and fold filling
  • Refyne → Soft and flexible
  • Defyne → Flexible, with more support than Refyne

Does Restylane Classic contain Lidocaine?

Yes.

Restylane Classic Lidocaine contains 3 mg/ml or 0.3% Lidocaine to help reduce injection pain.

If you have a history of allergy to Lidocaine or Amide anesthetics, inform the doctor before treatment.

Can Restylane Classic be used for nasolabial folds?

Yes.

Restylane is one of the HA Fillers with ongoing research into nasolabial fold correction.

Classic's firm gel can support folds, but not everyone's nasolabial folds originate directly in the fold itself.

Some people lose anterior-cheek volume, making the folds more noticeable. The doctor may need to fill supporting facial areas first or together with the folds.

Can Restylane Classic be used in the lips?

Product information states that Restylane Classyc Lidocaine can be used for Lip Enhancement.

Restylane also has Kysse, designed specifically for the lips.

Variant selection depends on whether the aim is to:

  • Adding volume
  • Defining the lip border
  • Adjust shape
  • Achieve a particular softness or shape retention

Not every lip type needs the same variant.

Can Restylane Classic be dissolved?

Yes.

Restylane Classic is a Hyaluronic Acid filler, so Hyaluronidase can dissolve it if the doctor considers it necessary.

Before dissolution, the doctor should always check the location and assess the filler amount.

How long does Restylane Classic take to settle after injection?

Volume and changes are visible immediately after injection, but early swelling from the needle and injection may also occur.

Generally, wait approximately 1–2 weeks for swelling to decrease before reassessing the shape.

Timing differs by area, especially the lips, which often swell more than other areas.

Does Restylane Classic cause swelling after injection?

After treatment, there may be:

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Needle marks
  • Bruising
  • Mild pain or tightness

Most symptoms gradually decrease after treatment.

For unusually severe pain, pale skin or progressively worsening discoloration, or visual abnormalities, contact the doctor immediately.
